Repair north exterior concrete ramp of the Navy Exchange Building 3452, which provides handicapped access from grade level to the main floor of the building and the horizontal separation of the brick wall at the northwest corner of the building above the west end of the ramp.Scope of work: Due to the small size of the ramp, and the extensive amount of cracking and spalling and general deterioration of the surface of the concrete, the scope of work is to demolish and reconstruct it. A concrete mix design and reinforcing details appropriate for salt and freeze/thaw exposure shall be used for the new ramp. In addition to sloping the ramp down to the west from floor level to grade, the ramp would also have a slight slope down to the north and away from the north wall of the building. And a revision for supporting the brick wall above the ramp may be necessary to alleviate the chloride attack, drainage and freeze-thaw problems which damaged the existing bricks above the ramp.
For the brick wall above the ramp, the scope of work is to remove all deteriorated bricks and replace them in a manner which will alleviate the chloride attack, drainage and freeze-thaw problems which damaged the existing bricks above the ramp. The proposed design shall include a detail to illustrate the approach to addressing these issues.
For the north and west brick walls at the northwest corner of the building, the scope of work is to remove displaced sections of the brick facade (about 2400 square feet) down to the top of the foundation, and replace them with new brick using an improved weep hole detail. Replace the brick as per the original construction drawing details. There is a security camera and a gas meter on the west wall in the area where masonry will be removed.
